Bandages and scars

The incision is usually made behind the ear, so that the resulting scar is practically invisible. From this incision, the surgeon reshapes the cartilage and reduces the depth of the shell. Seemingly simple intervention, however, requires delicacy and thoroughness.

It is often used a bandage modeling ears to cure in the correct position. Similarly, once removed, you should use a band or ribbon to sleep for a period of approximately one month. The result is permanent and reddish scars often remain in the first six months, to begin to clear and to hide from that time. The front of the ear (although it does not present scars) should be protected from the sun with protective lotions the first two months to avoid hyperpigmentation.

Anesthesia and duration

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and sedation. It takes about an hour and the time spent in the clinic is usually about an hour. However, until a full recovery is not evidence we do not we do not discharge a patient.

Postoperative considerations

You must wear a bandage for 48 or 72 hours. The ears remain slightly swollen for about 5 days.
The stitches are removed after 15-20 days.
The patient should wear a ribbon or band for sleeping that occlude ears for about a month to avoid the movement of the head during sleeping that can fold the ear still healing.
